CHICAGO — Republican candidate for governor Bill Brady says Department of Corrections chief Michael Randle put Illinois residents at risk by releasing some inmates early from prison and deserves to be fired.

The state senator from Bloomington said Tuesday that violent offenders shouldn’t be eligible for early release.

Randle and Gov. Pat Quinn have been under fire over a secret policy that let more than 1,700 inmates out of state prison early.

Quinn has reversed it and blamed Randle for a “big mistake.”

Quinn didn’t fire Randle. But Randle has taken responsibility for not following the governor’s orders to keep violent offenders out of early-release.

A spokeswoman for Randle hasn’t returned a message seeking comment.
